Pontoon facilities were installed and operated to revitalize marine leisure on the East Sea coast and provide yacht mooring, but the pontoon facilities were removed because of swell waves and bad weather. Since 2011, the marina has been rebuilt and operated using a safer anchor-block fixed system. The current mooring facilities can accommodate 36 yachts, but following requests from local fishers, they are used for 12 fishing boats and 24 yachts. The yacht facilities are managed by the Fisheries Promotion Division of Pohang City Hall.
The Pohang area is located on the southeastern East Sea coast of the Korean Peninsula. To the northwest it borders the Taebaek Mountains, with ridges over 1,000 m, and to the east it faces the East Sea. The annual average temperature is 14.2°C and annual average precipitation is 1,152.0 mm. In summer, the normal average temperature is 24.0°C, precipitation is 572.2 mm, and average wind speed is 2.6 m/s. Southwesterly winds are dominant, and heavy rain often occurs when typhoons pass through the Korea Strait and move out over the East Sea.
At Yangpo Port, mean sea level is 0.12 m, spring tidal rise is 0.2 m, and the mean high-water interval is 4 hours 50 minutes.
